Cuarto, cocina y baño

The focal point of the installation "Cuarto, cocina y baño" was a 20 ft storage container commonly used to house refugees. The artist recreated this omnipresent and yet transient vessel with wooden slats, boards, and plywood and filled it with everyday objects. The tables, chairs, plates, lamps etc. in this inhospitable place conveyed the condition of homelessness of refugees. But the objects were also treated as real objects in space, that engaged the artist on a formal level.

In addition there were two analogue projections: a three minute 16mm film "La bici" and the slide series "De los recuerdos". "La bici" is a silent movie and shows an old man cycling along a street who never reaches his destination. The slide show presented views from windows, and images of dry pastures and light and shadow that speak of the artist’s memories of her childhood in Córdoba; recollections every traveller carries, memories of a freedom that is lost when one is forced to flee.
