In 2002 I bought a carpet, or rather a quilt, from a farmer in Da’ar, near the Golan Heights in Syria. This carpet has been with me since then, this piece of singular and individual history. I often wonder where the farmer is. Since 2012 I work in my painting with the image of the woven carpet as a metaphor for human life. My project “101 Teppiche” consist of 100 works on paper (ink) and this Syrian carpet. The “101 Teppiche “ is also a work-in-progress project which can be shown as an installation in different places. The idea is to put my “carpet” pictures in dialogue with objects or everyday objects of the particular place or culture.
